Dr. Thomas is an advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and access for the nutrition profession. She is the current vice president of the Georgia Public Health Association, and the president elect for the National Organization of Blacks in Dietetics and Nutrition Member Interest Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is the immediate past president of both the Georgia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as the Public Health Community Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group. Dr. Thomas holds an appointed seat to the Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Dietitians as expert in community nutrition. Her love for nutrition stretches back to witnessing her maternal grandmother suffering from Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus as well as personal struggles with weight management. Dr. Thomas mentor students in nutrition and actively promotes student engagement, community involvement and education. She is a mother of four and enjoys spending time with family and teaching in church.
