Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt form of hyaluronic acid, it's smaller in molecular size, more stable in formula, and penetrates the skin more readily than standard high molecular weight hyaluronic acid. Both are forms of the same molecule doing related work at different depths. Many well-formulated serums include both, using sodium hyaluronate for deeper epidermal penetration and higher molecular weight HA for surface film-forming and immediate plumping. When you see sodium hyaluronate on a label, it isn't a cheaper substitute it's a deliberate formulation choice for a specific purpose.

This is a humidity problem. In low-humidity environments, HA has limited atmospheric moisture to draw from, so it pulls from the skin's own water reserves instead effectively dehydrating the surface rather than hydrating it.
